The Equipment Operator, reporting to the Fleet & Field Maintenance Superintendent, operates a variety of light and heavy equipment in support of grounds and facility maintenance. The position must have a Commercial Driver’s and ForkLift Operators Licenses and training in the proper and safe use of Bobcats, street sweepers, and John Deere and zero turn powered mowers. The operator is required to operate a variety of light and heavy equipment to support landscape and facility maintenance activities. The operator must have a journey level understanding of the safe and efficient operation of such equipment, knowledge of equipment maintenance and able to perform simple preventative maintenance per manuals and guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The position requires the knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and obtaining a commercial driver’s license and forklift operators permit. Must know the proper and safe use of light and heavy equipment. Requires working knowledge of safety rules and regulations. Requires the knowledge of how to maintain a variety of items and when to conduct such activities. Requires sufficient human relation’s skill to work as a cooperative member of a team and to serve internal customers.
Requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Requires the ability to observe safe work practices and operation of light and heavy equipment. Requires the ability to maintain productive and cooperative working relationships with others.
Requires the ability perform work of an active nature; to stand for extended periods of time, walk up to 400 yards, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) heavy weights of up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and 75 pounds on occasion. Requires the ability to push, pull, and guide materials over 50 pounds. Requires the ability to climb, stoop, kneel, and crouch on a regular basis. Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination, hand and finger dexterity including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to operate specialized equipment and safety information. Requires auditory ability to hear machinery sounds and alarms. Requires near and far visual acuity to observe moving objects, and observe work-in-progress. Requires speaking ability to carry on ordinary conversations. Requires the ability to work in extreme temperature conditions.
Work is performed mostly outdoors in extreme weather conditions where significant safety considerations exist from full-body physical labor and handling of medium-to-heavy weight materials
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The position requires the equivalent of a high school diploma and 6-12 months experience.
